Carl von Linne (1707-1778), the Swedish naturalist, sent expeditions all around the world to discover useful plants. In this timeline, he found and developed a strain of wheat from Siberia that thrived in a short growing season and limited rainfall. This "Linnaean wheat" is one key reason that Manitoba and Northern Vandalia were and are far more intensively farmed than IOW. (DAMB)
