8. Chester Arthur was no more likely to be born in this timeline than were Thomas Edison, John Rockefeller, or William Randolph Hearst, all of whom are mentioned in Sobel. He was evidently not important enough for Sobel to mention, but I have left these hints are an invitation for someone else to flesh out his career. Apparently he had something of the role that Morrill (another Vermonter) took on in starting or boosting universities IOW. (DAMB)
