1. No relation to IOW's, but it's definitely a tip of the hat. Hewitt became famous in his late 20s for reporting from some of the worst-damaged areas in Europe. These reports swayed CNA public opinion to support the Mason Doctrine programs and fuel the feelings of war guilt in the CNA. To be truthful, he's just a reporter, and didn't have strong feelings about Mason or his programs. He's very much like IOW's Ed Murrow.
