The Victoria Canal is a canal that connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea via the Gulf of Suez, passing between the African continent and the Sinai peninsula. It was built in the 19th century, presumably by the British, and named after Queen Victoria of Great Britain. Sobel mentions it in connection with the early months of the Global War, stating that a force of British marines were stationed at the canal in 1939, and that German forces took the canal, along with the Egyptian city of Alexandria, on 25 December 1939.
